What is exactly Crowfunding?

Surely you have heard that some comics had their beginnings on Crowdfunding platforms, if you don't know how it works, here are some basic steps of how it works and I seek to answer the basic question

Crowdfunding has revolutionized the way creators bring their projects to life by harnessing the collective power of the crowd. It's a funding method where individuals, groups, or businesses raise money for their ventures from a large number of people, typically through online platforms.

Here's how it works:

  • Project Creation: A creator initiates a crowdfunding campaign by outlining their project and setting a funding goal. This could be anything from launching a new product, funding a creative endeavor like a comic book, supporting a cause, or even financing a personal endeavor.

  • Engaging the Audience: The creator presents their project to the public through a dedicated campaign page on a crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter or Indiegogo. They use compelling visuals, videos, and descriptions to captivate potential backers and generate interest in their project.

  • Setting Rewards: To incentivize support, creators offer various rewards or perks to backers based on their contribution level. These rewards can range from a simple thank-you note to exclusive items, experiences, or early access to the project.

  • Funding Period: The campaign runs for a set period, typically 30 to 60 days. During this time, backers pledge their support by making monetary contributions to help reach the funding goal.

  • All or Nothing vs. Flexible Funding: In some platforms, like Kickstarter, creators must reach their funding goal within the specified time frame to receive any funds. This is known as "all or nothing" funding. On the other hand, platforms like Indiegogo offer flexible funding, where creators can keep the funds raised even if they don't reach their goal, but often with higher fees.

  • Promotion and Marketing: Throughout the campaign, creators actively promote their project through social media, email newsletters, press releases, and other channels to attract more backers and generate momentum.

  • Campaign Completion: Once the campaign ends, the crowdfunding platform processes the payments and transfers the funds to the creator, minus any applicable fees.

  • Fulfillment: The creator fulfills the rewards promised to backers. This involves producing and delivering the project or perks according to the timeline and specifications outlined in the campaign.

  • Building Community: Successful crowdfunding goes beyond just raising funds; it's about building a community of supporters who are invested in the creator's success. Engaging with backers, providing updates, and delivering on promises are crucial for fostering long-term relationships.

In essence, crowdfunding democratizes the funding process, allowing creators to turn their ideas into reality with the support of passionate backers from around the world.Am I missing any point that you consider essential or important? You can always write to me at elcomicologo@gmail.com
